Toot Your Horn Tuesday - I Heart Faces & Awards

Just thought I'd throw in this ADORABLE picture of Glynis in her fairy costume.

It's been a miserable week or so around our house and many many others around the country. Yep, you guessed it, we're sick! Some of the symptoms going on here are fever, coughing, body aches, head aches, running nose, congestion (and irritability.) This swine flu really oinks!!

But alas, it is Tuesday so I have to find something I did right...Well, what do you know? ...I got a couple of awards this week!! I guess these ladies find my blog to be somewhat amusing (even though I've been a lame blogger recently.) So here we go.

Alycia, from Coloring Outside the Lines, has been one of my favorite bloggers in recent times. Her wit thrills me and she has an amazing way with words! I am honored that she awarded me with this... I'm suppose to now share 10 honest things about myself, but I think I'll just do 5.
1. As I've grown older, I've become somewhat of a control freak. Actually, I haven't reached full freak status yet, so please pray for me. There's still hope.
2. I am the most forgetful woman in the world, but somehow I manage to have not lost any children over the years.
3. I love to be silly! I love to laugh and make others laugh, but I can't tell a joke worth poop.
4. Sometimes my mouth squeaks when I eat. (I plan on capturing it on video, so stay tuned)
5. I have a fear of candy vending machines. The little ones that our children want to stick their quarters in to get a handful of sweet tarts or bubble gum. I had heard years ago on a news program that those gumball machines are filthy with germs. (I'm a closet germ-a-phobe)

On to the next award. This one is from Pennie over at Mom Thoughts. This lady I met more recently has a big heart for God and for women. She's also a mom of teens like me!
She gave me an award too! I'm all giddy! With this award comes a list of questions that must be answered with one word only. You can go see her full list of answers, but I'm going to just do a few.
1. your hair? GRAY
2.favorite food? SUSHI
3. what room are you in? BEDROOM
4. your hobby? TODDLER
5. something you're not? TRENDY
6.your life? BUSY
7. your mood? CONTENT
8. last time you cried? YESTERDAY
9. missing someone? DAD
10. favorite color? PURPLE

I'm suppose to pass these awards on, but I'll have to do that another day. This one is already getting away from me.

Toot Your Horn Tuesday - Quality vs. quantity

Being a stay at home mom can be a thankless job at times. We may slave away in the kitchen to cook a splendid meal, but we don't get a paycheck. We may spend hours cleaning up the house, but it's only going to get wrecked again. And we may stay up late helping our child finish a school project, but we don't receive an "A."

Here's where Toot Your Horn Tuesday comes to the rescue. We all know how important being a mom is, but isn't it nice to get some recognition?!

I'm still working on my flower beds and they are coming along nicely, but I'm most happy about the time I've been able to devote to my kids this past week. I've been trying to make it more of a priority. With 4 of them it's quite hard to focus on just one at the time.

The boys are difficult to pin down. All 3 of them are involved in various activities and homework. The oldest has a job now too. I have found that the best quality time with them is in the car. They have no choice, but to listen to me ramble. Occasionaly they'll say something too. :)

My 2 year old daughter, naturally, requires a lot of attention. I can't take my eyes off of her, but very often I find myself sticking her in front of the t.v. so that I can get some chores done. I'm determined to do better!! The housework can wait. And being that my oldest is already a senior, I should realize how quickly these days pass.

I found a way to get the whole family together, even if it was only for 30 minutes. I baked some sugar cookies earlier in the day and then once everyone was home we decorated them. We ended up with some pretty ugly cookies, but some pretty wonderful memories.

Have you written a Toot post? The Toot Your Horn Tuesday button is right there on the sidebar. Play along by copying the code and using it in your post. Then come back here to share your link using Mr. Linky below. Leave comments too. I can't wait to hear your stories!!

Not Me Monday - Gonna be in trouble when my son sees this

Is it Monday again?

I've got a complete Not Me Monday list all prepared... NOT!

I am sitting at my computer eating breakfast right now. (Eggs, in case you were wondering.) And I did not cook them in the microwave again. I know it's quick, but they always end up exploding and leaving me with a big mess to clean up, thus not making it so "quick."

Since I have a horrible time remembering some of the details of each week, when Monday rolls around I have to refer to my digital photo albums to jog my memory.

Oh here's one....

I would never take an embarrassing picture of one of my kids and then use Picnik to doodle on it and then post it on the Internet!! What a horrible mom!!

MckMama makes me do horrible things!

Ok people, yet again I am inviting you to play along tomorrow with the FABULOUS
Toot Your Horn Tuesday blog carnival.
I have one faithful participant, but would be happy if I had a few hundred more.
Whether you've won the Nobel Peace Prize or potty trained your daughter. This is where you can share your accomplishments. You won't receive a prize,
but you will receive some well deserved recognition.
If you're a mommy, you know this is hard to come by.

~Proverbs 31:10, 25-30
Who can find a virtuous woman? She is far more precious than jewels...Strength and honor are her clothing, and she can laugh at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and loving instruction is on her tongue.
She watches over the activities of her household and is never idle. Her sons rise up and call her blessed. He husband also praises her:Many women are capable, but you surpass them all! Charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord will be praised.

Wordless Wednesday - The Middle Child

With all that was going on last month I wasn't able to post a tribute to Carson for his birthday, so here it is finally! He turned 15 on Sept. 29th. He's my quiet one with the sharp wit.
I love you Carson!!

This picture is courtesy of Tim, who was surprisingly able to catch Carson's smile on film.
He hates having his picture taken!

Toot Your Horn Tuesday - The Barefoot Gardener

Anyone care to play along this week? It's Toot Your Horn Tuesday and I'm quite excited to declare that my landscaping project is well underway!

Let me start by explaining that the flower beds in front of my house were over 50 years old. The old plants and bushes had seen better days! So with some help, I've removed bushes, pulled weeds, laid landscaping timbers and tomorrow the top soil is being delivered! I'm almost giddy! I'm hoping that by next week I can share pictures of my newly planted beds! :)
For today, here's a few pictures of one of my helpers, The Barefoot Gardener

And one more of my helpers... Mr. Stump Grinder. What a magnificent machine. He ate up the dangerous holly bush that I have loathed for over 10 years!
If you've gotten a big (or small) project started or completed then now's your chance to brag a little. Write a post for your blog or just leave a comment and tell us all about it!

Blog Frog Promo

I've had less time to devote to the bloggy world the last few months because of my Dad's cancer, but I have had some time to check into this awesome community of bloggers called Blog Frog.
You've seen it in my side bar for quite some time now and I have yet to take full advantage of all it has to offer, but what I see thrills me!!
You really need to check it out for yourself and JOIN UP!

It's the new MUST HAVE for your blog.

Not Me Monday - Socks

I thought today would be an appropriate day to join back in with the Not Me Monday Blog Carnival along with MckMama. She's such a hoot, isn't she? And I've definitely got some good stuff this week. Here I go....

I did not take a fidgety, sleepy toddler into Walmart in the middle of the day on the 1st of the month. Do you know how horrendous the lines are at that time? I should mention also, that I did not forget to bring a list too! You've seen those poor women before, the one standing in line with a loaded down shopping cart, child screaming, onlookers rolling their eyes with disgust. Yeah, it was that kind of day! I've been in this same predicament before. You'd think I'd learn my lesson. Maybe I should get it tattooed to my hand so I'll remember. NO SHOPPING WITH TIRED TODDLER!

How about those toddlers? The second year can be very trying, don't you know? My daughter got 2 little scratches on her face over a month ago. Well, they just won't heal because she can't keep her cute little fingers away from them! What's a mom to do? I've tried everything! No way, I did not tape socks onto her arms! And of course I did not take her out in public like that. And by the way, this picture was taken several weeks ago. And her face is still not healed! Any suggestions?

Enough of these Not Me's. Even after 4 children, I still haven't perfected this mothering thing!

Have you come by my blog on a Tuesday?! Well, if you haven't, then you are missing a great opportunity! I host a super follow up to MckMama's Not Me Monday. It's called Toot Your Horn Tuesday. After serving up all of our embarrassing moments, we finally get to brag about what we actually got right! I hope you'll play along! Same as MckMama, just grab the button from my sidebar, write your post and then link back to me tomorrow. I promise you'll have fun. We all need a pat on the back now and then.

Beware the germs

Are you sick too? Everyone I know is sick! I've had sinus issues this week (very minor.) My son has too. But I've been hearing about the flu from soooo many people. Maybe I should just stay home this weekend and avoid the public altogether!
Why don't we have a poll. Check out the side bar on the right...
